第9回 MAG ♥NET展 ギャラリー1045平塚

　関東地方は雪景色。神奈川県・相模原には大雪警報が出ている中、平塚駅近くのギャラリー1045の企画展に出かけた。 bゼミ時代の先輩、曽根夏生さんの最近の仕事である。「流体画譜」と題されたシリーズは、5点の作品で構成されていた。 壁の角を挟んで、2点と3点。なるほど、流線という名の通り、観る側の視線も自然に角を流れていく。

　曽根さんは色鉛筆を使い、優しく、しかもダイナミックに、ふっと肩の力が抜けるような空間を探っているように見える。今回も期待を裏切らず、目に優しい。しかし、優しいだけではない作品だった。彼もまた、モノ派の系譜につながる作家なのだろう。 王道の美術教育で養われた感性や技術とは異なる、泥臭い感性の生々しさ。 それが、彼自身によって洗練された技法へと昇華されている。その過程を味わいながら、作品を楽しんだ。

　書道のように線をひき、線の交わりで閉じられた面に色をぬってゆく。線を追う視線が時間を生み、楽譜のような絵になると作家は言います。

いつも思うのだが、彼の作品にそこはかとなく漂うユーモアは、いったいどこから来るのだろうか

　

　The Kanto region was a snowy landscape. Even as a heavy snow warning was issued for Sagamihara in Kanagawa Prefecture, I went out to an exhibition at Gallery 1045 near Hiratsuka Station. 

It featured the recent work of my senior from the b-semi days, Natsuo Sone. The series, titled “Streamline Drawings,” consisted of five pieces. 

Two works and three works, arranged on either side of a corner of the wall. True to the name “streamline,” the viewer’s gaze naturally flows around the corner.

Using colored pencils, Sone seems to be exploring a space that gently, yet dynamically, allows the tension in your shoulders to relax. This time as well, he did not betray expectations; the works are easy on the eyes. But they are not merely gentle. He, too, is probably an artist connected to the lineage of Mono-ha. 

He draw lines as in calligraphy and then fill the enclosed areas formed by intersecting lines with color. The artist says that the gaze following the lines creates time, turning it into a picture like a musical score.

A raw, earthy sensibility, different from the sensitivity and technique cultivated by orthodox art education. 

That quality has been sublimated into a refined technique of his own. I enjoyed the works while savoring that process.

I always find myself wondering: where on earth does the faintly drifting humor in his works come from?
